Recent Purchases (Dec 2015 & Jan 2016)

These past two months have been great for shopping!  Besides buying some stuff from New Zealand and the Fashion Fast Forward warehouse sale, I also bought some other random things from regular shops.

Mall Rat – The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley Megamall & Suria KLCC

Chinese New Year is fast approaching and the malls are decked out in festive decorations.  I didn’t manage to catch many of the decorations but I loved the pretty floral themes used in The Gardens Mall.

I was intrigued by the display in the window of the Hermès boutique in The Gardens Mall.  Steel was fashioned to resemble buildings and people.  Scarves and hats were worn by the “mannequins”.  Even the floors of the boutique windows were made to resemble paved streets.

New Zealand Shopping & Dress-Smart Outlet, Auckland

A small, but satisfying haul
I was mentally prepared to return from New Zealand without doing any shopping.  It is commonly known that New Zealand isn’t exactly a shoppers’ paradise.  Most of my friends living in New Zealand still make most of their fashion-related purchases in Malaysia when they return for holidays.  But what is a holiday without any shopping?

Thrift Shopping in Kuala Lumpur – The Ones That Got Away 3

Of late, I have had more misses than hits while thrift shopping.  And what spectacular misses they have been!  I was browsing in a thrift shop, hoping to find something.  I found this short Chanel sleeveless jacket (if it can be called that).  I was so excited but it really didn’t fit me well at all.  My shoulders are too narrow and my waist isn’t slender enough.

Fashion Fast Forward Warehouse Sale @ Atria Shopping Gallery (22-25 January 2016)

I was at the members’ preview of the Fashion Fast Forward Warehouse Sale today.  I’m sure everyone is itching to go and trying to decide whether to go or not so I’ll address those burning questions first and edit this post later for more photos and details.

For people who are thinking of dashing there today
The queue to pay was still snaking all the way to the back of the venue and looped around several times when I left at 3.30pm.  I queued for 2.5 hours just to pay.

There is an additional discount of 10% for a minimum purchase of 3 items.  However, the additional 10% discount for Citibank credit card holders doesn’t apply anymore.  As such, the maximum additional discount is only 10%.  That kind of defeats the purpose of having an extra discount on preview day!

Please note that 10% additional discount means 10% off the already discounted price, i.e. not 70% + 10% = 80%.

Discounts were either 60% or 70%.  I saw a rack of ladies clothes at 80% off but they weren’t that great.  The merchandise marked at flat prices (MYR9, 19, 29, 39) were left mostly untouched because they weren’t attractive.  Do check your stuff carefully because one pair of Pumpkin Patch pants scanned at full price (MYR149) but the cashier told me that was the final price.  There was no discount marked on the tag so no dispute there.

If you’re going there for shoes and bags, not much is left.  I saw some unopened boxes stacked at the venue so I assume that there will be restocking over the next few days.

I don’t think you will miss much if you go over the weekend instead of today and tomorrow.  I heard a lot of people grumbling because of the long queues because they had only taken half a day of leave.

Full review behind the jump.

BeautyConsumer - Avène Sunscreens

Avène is one of those drugstore brands that I have a fairly good impression of but would never bother trying at retail price.  However, chance encounters with discounted Avène products at Alpro pharmacies led to my buying some products.  For some reason, I bought four sunscreens from Avène to try over the past year or so although I am quite a fan of Bioré’s sunscreen and have repurchased them many times.  Please read on for my thoughts.

Wardrobe Aspirations for 2016

It’s been a late start to the year 2016 but better late than never, right?  I don’t usually make new year’s resolutions but I think I should make some, fashion-wise, of course.  However, I do love making wishlists.  I also do think that I should distinguish clearly between my wardrobe wants and needs.  So, here is my combined resolution/wishlist!

Wardrobe Aspirations for 2016

Throw out old and worn out clothes without mercy

Clothes to be deleted soon
It has always been hard for me to cull my wardrobe mercilessly.  After reading about Marie Kondo’s method, I managed to dispose of some clothing.  I’m so proud of myself.  I even attached tags (okay, old red packets with cutouts) to the hangers of clothes that I am prepared to cull in the next year or so.

I returned from holidays to find that my telephone line had been terminated (?!).  So, I will be unable to post regularly until I get my telephone line and Internet sorted out.

On the bright side, there are plenty of sales going on!

H&M:  Final deals are on but there isn't a lot of good merchandise left.
MNG:  Further reductions (not that great, IMO)
Zara:  Further reductions (prettier stuff than MNG but still pricey to me)
Muji:  30 - 70% off selected merchandise.  I saw some beige-coloured camisoles going for MYR13 after 70% discount, padded camisoles in XL going for MYR24 after 70% discount and jeans for MYR59 at Muji One Utama.
Promod:  Further reductions up to 70% off.  Spotted wool felt hats for MYR30-50, small leather pouches in medium blue, salmon, metallic beige for MYR30, various leather belts (including leopard print) for MYR30 onwards, shoes and boots from MYR70.  Seemed like a really good sale!

Edited with pictures for Promod
Leather pouches from Promod
Black and cream woollen hats from Promod
I really loved these red pumps (in 2 different heel heights!) from Promod but they only had sizes 36 or 38.  On sale for MYR70.
Until I return, happy shopping!
